Ian and his wife, Valerie, recently moved to Anchorage from Spokane Valley, WA, where he retired as a pastor after 50 years of ministry. While there, church attendance grew from 450 to 950 and they completed a new $4.2M facility. He is a graduate of Nazarene Bible College (Manchester, England), and Nazarene Theological Seminary (Kansas City).
Ian was raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Valerie in Belfast, N. Ireland. He has been active in community life in Spokane Valley, serving on the Planning Commission and City Council. The Chamber of Commerce awarded him the “Community Caring Award,” then later named him “Citizen of the Year.” Ian also founded The HUB, a large regional sports center. He is also board chairman of Community-Minded Enterprises of Spokane, an organization that is dedicated to serving the disadvantaged.
During the interim period, Ian’s main task will be to help church members redefine their mission and objectives, then set ministry priorities for the congregation and in the community.
In his youth, Ian served three years in the Royal Navy Reserves. Past hobbies include sailing (qualified instructor) and flying (private pilot). For several years, he worked for Lockheed, as an engineering instructor and manufacturing training coordinator (C4/D5 missiles).
The Robertsons have relatives in Anchorage. Ian’s sister, Sheila, and her husband, Cliff Stratton own Highland Glen Lodge on Hillside Drive. Their niece is Gwen Adams, Adult/Women’s Pastor at ChangePoint.
One favorite scripture is Ecclesiastes 11:4 (Living Bible): “If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.”
